Metroline Business Improvement Team

Background
Metroline operates a large percentage of London’s buses, under contract to Transport for London.  Responding to stringent performance targets, the business is in a period of rapid change and development. The focus is very much on the Engineering part of the business, which had been identified as a major opportunity for improvement.

A Business Improvement Team, consisting of senior Engineers and other stakeholders, was formed to drive a programme of positive change. people=positive™ was asked to kick-start the process.

Issue
How would a team of people who were already under a lot of day to day pressure rise to the challenge of leading a major business improvement initiative?

Solution
people=positive™ developed a 3-stage strategic process.  First, a one day session was held with team members and other key stakeholders to open up lines of communication and gain clarity on expectations. Secondly, the team attended a three day event to develop their Success Map©.  people=positive™ then developed follow-up workshops to help drive the implementation of action plans and to coach key leaders with the challenges they encountered with their teams.

Results
It is still early days to judge fully the success of the team, but it is clear that people=positive™’s involvement has helped create a very positive and focused start to the improvement programme.  The Success Map© has become the central planning tool for the process, and champions have been appointed to spearhead all the Key Success Factors.  The programme is now being rolled out at a bus depot level.
